a new and rather special commission from Mercedes, we were asked to design, model, assemble and oversee the assembly of a physical architects model of the entire 1.2km long Mercedes-Benz World site.
the completed model is now on permanent display in the Mercedes-Benz world museum and driving experience centre in Weybridge, UK.
initially we modelling the entire site in 3D wireframe. bringing together topographical data, architects models and endless site documentation, we created an accurate 1:200 scale CGI model that included detail down to pavement edging and traffic cones.
after a few test areas to test the detail and finish we could achieve, the 6m x 2m scene was formed out of a block of polyurethane model board using a cnc mill.
elements such as the main building were designed and milled separately while 3D printing was used to produce the most detailed areas that could not be achieved through cnc cutting.
after painting, the project moved on site where an electrical team installed led lighting beneath the track areas and we added the building and other detailed model parts.
the model now serves as an interactive display, offering information through the front counter about the site, and the many racing track areas.
